Pushing Through Fear
Have you ever read a book and felt you had met your artistic soulmate? That is how I felt when I saw Meera Lee Patel's artwork and read both of her books: "Start Where You Are" and "My Friend Fear". These books have helped me through my initial anxieties about starting a business AND have helped me look at life through a different perspective. They are the kind of books that are quick to read, have lots of amazing illustrations AND most importantly, you get something new out of them every time you pick up.
"Start Where You Are" is a daily journal meant to ask you thought provoking questions that lead your mind to make connections to things you normally wouldn't. The book challenges you to do things like "go outside today and write your experience" or to list out your fears and then scribble them away. I chose to do one page a day and although I have not finished it yet, the time I have spent was really worth while; especially if you lack the confidence to believe in yourself enough to take the plunge and start your dream company.
"My Friend Fear" has had a special place in my heart because it has helped many friends and family. It is the like the Traveling Pants of my circle of friends. When my husband was on tour I read it and whenever I felt compelled to give it to someone, they have given it back with much appreciation. Right now I have read it three times and the book has traveled to Massachusetts, New Hampshire and most recently California. This book explores fear in a new way and gives you the opportunity to use it to your advantage or for me, as another tool in my mental tool chest to help me cope with my ongoing anxiety.
I encourage you to keep an open mind, follow Meera Lee Patel on Instagram and take a chance on finding peace/inspiration/motivation/self discovery.
